Fishing improves with the RISING water!?
Posted 20 July 2012, 10:37 pm NDT
It is not very often that with rising water the fishing improves...but it has! We figure this must be the start of the main run for Eagle because the river was showing a lot of fish this evening. One boat reported hooking three, rising another 5, and seeing at least another dozen or so porpoise and jump in the span of 1 1/2 hours. With water this high and rising, that is some great results! Over the last 24 hours the river has risen about 10-12 inches.

We bid fairwell to our group of veteran anglers today and welcome back our group from Belgium. Though very tired from the long flight they had good success today. One teenage boy in the group hooked and played a 12-14lb fish for about 25 minutes. He couldn't believe the fish's ability to anchor itself to bottom like a rock and then explode with a burst of energy!! The river is very cool now, and the salmon are fresh from the ocean, pure silver/blue. They are incredibly powerful and a grilse can easily strip out 50-75 yards of backing. Watch your knuckles!

His younger brother also hooked up tonight. We have a few rookies in this group as well, and we are confident that with the help of our guides, they will be into fish this weekend.

The forcast for this weekend is very good. The temperatures are decent and with just a chance of showers in the long range forcast, conditions should get very good. Once the river stops rising and turns to fall...look out! It could make for some fantastic late July and August fishing.

Dwight and one of the guides explored a new fishing spot tonight on the river. We had never fished there before and nobody could recall anybody fishing it or there being a name for it. They hooked 2 fish there, and rose several more. The spot is to the west side of the large boulder that sits off of Macavitty's Point. The boulder is submerged creating a good rip for one rod, but outside of that are some boils in the current that were great and full of fish. It is great for two rods, plus they hooked two fish there, and Dwight found out this week that his fianceé is pregnant with twins...so the new name on the pool...'Expecting Twins'!
