"Might Be My Best Trip Ever"

Well the water level continues to drop and the fish are still coming.

If the level of the water continues to drop as it has been it will be at the same level it was at last year during our most productive week. Add to this a continuing supply of fresh fish and a new moon approaching.

One of our regular guests who has been fishing the Lower Eagle for a number of years told me today that " this might be my best trip ever."

He has been one of the only anglers this year who has had the opportunity to do some fishing in the "Rock Pile" Some anglers were there in the early season before the river rose, but there weren't as many fish in the river as there are now.

The Rock Pile is what we refer to the pools that form among the rocks below the falls. Fishing the rock pile now with this water level is not for the feint of heart or the inexperienced wader; and you have to know how to get up there. There were a couple of times that I thought that he was going to go for a swim.

I followed him up as far as I dared today and was amazed as he hooked a fish on his very first cast. He was telling me that when he was up there yesterday the saw 4 different fish come for his fly in one pass.

Unlike the Olympic Games where the athletes are "going for the gold"; tomorrow I will follow him up again and see him go for the silver. I can't wait!

Just one more note on fishing the rock pile. If you are a guest who wants to fish up there you may be out of luck. Not all guides are willing to accompany guests into the rock pile because of the very fast currents and deep holes that make the trip so hazardous.
