Justin with the first fish of the Lower Eagle, 2018! (larger version)
The 2018 season has begun! We have had guests fishing here since June 30th, and our first full group arrived yesterday. The fishing is tough and it is really hard to guage how many are in he river. The water is high. It has been at a sustained high level for longer and higher than any of us here in camp have ever seen. The chart in our next post will give an idea of just how abnormally high it is. We have been taking surface water temps just from our boat's sonar and the average for the season so far is 54 F! Brrrr!

To date, two fish have been caught and released, and we may stand to be corrected, but we believe Justin caught the first salmon of 2018 on the Eagle! Justin landed this beauty July 2nd. Congrats, Justin!

The river level is slowly dropping, and guests are seeing fish but very little action. Reports from the Sandhill River and Whitebear are that salmon are 2 weeks late. That fits with what we are seeing here. The opportunities to catch and even see fish seem to only be on the rising rides and small waves of fish just cruising on through with no conditions to hold them up.

Our guests are having a great time mixing with each other, and spirits are high. We are hoping the action picks up to match their spirit. Stay tuned for that!
