Couple Jim and Lucie, showing off their success. Jim with a beauty large fish, and Lucie with her first ever, a nice grilse. They are part of this group of 12, taking full advantage of the bus to beat the weather.
Another week has passed and today we say see ya later to a fantastic mixed group of 12 departing camp, and welcome the next bunch of intrepid anglers, braving the Labrador weather in search of the Eagle River bounty.

The weather! It's been a wet week. The river has risen to a bit of a torrent. The water remains cool at 55-56F. All seasoned anglers know that rising water is not ideal for angling results. That said, there are still a lot of fish entering Eagle. They are not holding up long with all this water, but they did provide some good action. The more experienced anglers had up to a solid 5 CPUE (that's Catch Per Unit of Effort in angler language, or fish hooked per person per day), and with several rookies in camp, the exciting stories of their first fish, and subsequent fish is an excitement that is contagious!! 2 couples in this week, with one lady hooking 19, including her first ever! Great stuff I tell you.

The weather is socked in here today, on our changeover, so we are doing everything we can to keep our busy guests on their schedules. Our new bus is a game changer. With the impending forecasts and planes unable to fly, we put a plan B into action and sent the bus to Cartwright. Our 12 outgoing guests are now on the way to Goose Bay to meet their scheduled commercial flights, and by the end of this day we should have all incoming guests in to the lodge either by plan A, a plane, or plan B, the shuttle bus and jet boats. Whatever it takes within our control to make it happen and keep everyone smiling is what we will do.

I'm really hoping the weather improves and rains back off. It would be nice to see the water level crest and turn to fall. That will improve the chances of continued success this season. There still plenty of big fish around. Christina landed a shiny 16lber a couple days ago, and the guides are saying still plenty of 12-15lb fish in the river. Stay tuned to see if they latch on this week!
