Preparing for 2011
Posted 18 March 2011, 9:06 pm NDT
While it was late coming, winter certainly did arrive on the Eagle River. We have been busy hauling supplies for the 2011 season on snowmobiles. Many of you might be surprised to know that we travel through the gorge on our snowmobiles with thousands of pounds in tow on the ice that clings securely to the edge of the cliffs. The gorge is tamed by winter and the river is a very peaceful bubble where the current maintains a hole of water. I can't help but wonder, "are there 'slinks' (spent salmon) going out under all of this snow and ice?"

I took the time to go into the burnwoods, which are stands of dry black spruce and fir which is prized firewood for locals who travel he distance to cut some for making splits. The old burn is above the falls, across the steady and on the hills to the north of the Eagle. It offers a view of the Eagle River valley quite different from what we experience from our boats in the summer. The beauty of this area certainly brings about a sense of pride to be living in harmony with the land and it's resources.

The season is 3 months away, and the time will slip by quickly. We look forward to serving you this season. If you haven't already booked your angling adventure of a lifetime, be sure to check out our availabilty and see where you can fit in for a piece of the action. We would wait...but the salmon won't so get in touch with Dwight today!
