Well yesterday proved to be another successful day on the Eagle.

I was fortunate enough to witness another Father and Son double. I also heard that one of our boats report 5 double headers. They weren't all landed but to have 2 anglers to both have bent rods on 5 different occasions gives a good indication of the number of fish that are coming into the river.

Two of our guides took guests to White Bear for a very successful trip. One of our guides told me about a very large fish that he saw in one of the pools.

The river is continuing to fall and the forecast is calling for some showers. Water temperature is still low for this time of the season. TG

Another spectacular day on the Eagle! All of our guests were into fish!. Everyone was excitedly describing sighting the fish coming up river and the action that followed as the reached the pools.

"The river is full!" exclaimed on of our regular guests. Our long term guides describe this as "how the Eagle was 10 years ago"

Needless to say, we have some very happy anglers in camp this week.

Water levels are continuing to drop back but are still at a good fishing level. The weather is quite favorable, with warm winds and partially sunny skies. TG

We refer to our to-the-limit, 63cm, 6-7lb grilse as the 'maxi grilse'. And for the last week we have been into the thick of them. We are still seeing a few large fish in the 10-15lb range (approx 8-10% of hookups) but the river has seen more grilse and maxi grilse this year than the last couple of years. Maybe it is the water conditions and we are seeing more, or maybe there are more? Who knows. Our incoming guests on friday hooked 56 in their first afternoon session from 1-6pm. Some of them had dinner on that and called it a day!

Here is a pic of one caught by our guest, Harry, on Friday. This one measured in 61cm, but the girth of this beauty definitely puts it into the class of a maxi grilse.

The fishing action has picked up. Our newest group of guests have started with a bang. Their first two days of fishing has produced the best results so far this year. All our guests have landed fish.

The water level in the river is slowly dropping, and while Back River is no longer able to be fished by boat the Bathtub is now fishing. The weather too is more favorable. Yesterday turned out to be a beautiful day and the same is forecast for today.

As you can imagine, I hear many stories...

This has been a great week of fishing, and it is continuing. Most of our guests this trip have beginner or intermediate skill levels, are not putting a lot of rod time in and they are having great success. The last few days there have been 35-40 fish per day caught by the camp.

We are still seeing some large fish, however this is certainly the middle of the maxi-grilse run. Lots of nice, thick, 5-6 pound grilse. Still seeing some large fish as well. Petra successfully landed and released...

Our new group of guests have early success with 3 fish landed during their first session.
They were excitedly waiting for the next day to try their luck.

They were very fortunate and many of them landed fish including 2 by 1 rookie angler and 1 by another rookie. . Pratt's was very productive and after the increase in the water level Back River and Lem's Lane are now fishing while the Bathtub is a little too turbulent.

The water level appears to have crested and is now starting to settling back. This may change as I have heard reports of more rain over the plateau.

The temperature is quite low, but spirits are quite high after yesterday's action. More of the same is expected for today.

Well yesterday we remained consistent with 32 fish total for the
camp. The day was sunny and warm with heavy gusts of wind.

There was a second double header in Pratt's that resulted in a rod
being broken in 2 pieces and the salmon being released safely
back into the river.

I heard another amazing story too and you would have to be
familiar with the Eagle to understand.

This story was told to me by another angler who started with:
"If someone told me this I wouldn't believe it." I'll let...

The past couple of days have been consistant with 37 and 33 fish landed.  The current reported ratio of salmon is about 1/3 of the total with a healthy population  of thick grilse making up the remainder.

 

The river has risen a little and appears to be holding.  Fish are being seen all over the river, but are hesitant to take the fly in their brief stop in the pools.

 

Clear skys and sunshine this morning, which is forecast to change to showers and possible thunder showers later today.

 

One amazing story was told about a 33" (84 cm) Salmon that took the fly despite the fact that it had obviously been in contact with a predator.   It had a missing peice of flesh on its back and the skin appeared to be torn or scratched in other locations. TG

Well yesterday's fishing action was just slightly better than the day before with 33 fish landed. 10 of which were Salmon.

The morning started with an early session with our first double header for the year. A salmon and a grilse. Yes Andy, .... Steve and Paul are the high-liners and yes .... they had the double!

We were treated to a bit of Ceviche last night which was very tasty. Thank you very much to Dick for his gourmet talents!

The weather is damp and cold with intermittent showers and cooler temperatures. Water levels in the river seem to be holding for the time being.

I look forward to hearing the stories this evening when the anglers return for evening.

This weeks guests were a little late arriving due to weather. They were still able to catch 3 fish in their first session.

Today saw our largest number of fish hooked for the season with an impressive 31. Lots of nice grilse on the river now.

Wet weather in forecast. We are hoping for similar results tomorrow.
