At least 3 of our groups have reported double headers. That is when 2 anglers hook and play fish at the same time.

It is not unusual that this happens her on the Eagle, but to have 3 in one afternoon is an indication of the number of fish in the river.

Some of our guests are returning visitors others are new to the Eagle, but all are catching fish.

One group of regulars was telling us that he is close to hooking more fish than he has in any of his previous trips to the Eagle.

The river is at a good level now, but a couple days of rain in the plateau wouldn't hurt and would allow the current level to persist.

Releasing Yet Another Trophy Fish With Rookie Guide Christopher Angell (larger version)
Well this week has quickly come to an end, with this group loving the fishing action that they have enjoyed of the past week.

All of our guests have enjoyed their stay and are talking about returning whenever we can accommodate them. This is starting to get a little challenging with rod spaces for next season filling up very quickly.

Our current guests tell us that they averages about 40% large fish which is normal this early in the season. They have many stories to tell; such as the one...

Pulling Anchor to chase a big one. (larger version)
Quite a lot of people ask me, "How do you post such high catch rates when you are only allowed to catch and release 4 fish a day?". The answer to that is quite simple. Our catch rates are hook stats. And in the prime time runs we can hook a lot of fish, but if you play hard with these Eagle River salmon, I can guarantee you it is easy to hook lots of fish but not so easy to land and release them!

I spent 1 1/2 hours fishing this morning from 6:20-7:50 at Jean's Pool. Hooked five fish, 4...

Well yesterday our guests had a late start bidding farewell to their companions who had other commitments elsewhere. Although most didn't start until after 10 they had a successful day.

I don't think that there was a guest that didn't hook a fish.

I had the opportunity to have a flick with Dwight. We tried a couple of pools further down river but saw nothing.

We moved up into a little faster water and I saw Dwight raise a fish about 12 times before he hooked it. Honestly there was at...

Chris' fishing buddy Rennie releasing his own large salmon during their adventures in the rock pile...see report yesterday titled 'HELP' (larger version)
I (Dwight) came into the river this morning with a load of supplies for the camp, and as I made my way up river I could tell that things were going very well at camp. All the guests were smiling and waving as I drove past and it was just obvious that everybody was having a great time. My thoughts were confirmed when I arrived at the lodge. It didn't take long for the stories to start pouring in and at the lunch table everybody was buzzing about the great week we have been having.

Our guests...

The end result of all the excitement in the rock pile. Guide, Christopher Angell, and guest, Chris, release this beauty 36" salmon. (larger version)
Fishing is a little slower for most of the day but several runs provided exciting action for one angling team from south of the border.

Meanwhile; our younger anglers were having a blast all day wading in front of the camp. Today was the day that they both took a little dip. I guess they jumped the gun getting me to clarify last time!

They have both been baptized in the mighty Eagle River. They are certainly believers in the power and quantity of fish that this river hold because their...

Our guests are having continued success today. There were lulls in the action but everyone was satisfied with their success today.

We were treated to a show today on the deck. We saw 2 guests hook fish one after the other in the pools we can see in front of the camp. One was a large salmon hooked by One Fish Rock. When I saw it jump it was at an angle that didn't show it's length, but its girth told me it was a nice salmon.

We had a couple of anglers who were successful wading below the...

Well our new group of guests are settling in well. They had a tremendous fishing yesterday with one guest reporting that he hooked his first fish on the fifth cast.

There were numerous hookups all around the river and we heard that one of our guests; an avid trout angler; landed his first Atlantic Salmon.

This morning began very promising with many anglers reporting having hooked fish before breakfast. The action slowed slightly until the evening, which produced some hard hitting grilse action. You know it is hard hitting grilse action when you are into you backing 3 times.

I saw a couple of adventurous anglers try the rock pile today. They didn't stay long after one of them went for a dip.

This morning we bid farewell to the first of our guests for this season. They all told us that they had a great time and most of the salmon that they landed were large fish in the 8 - 16 lb range.

Much of yesterday evening they spend socializing to keep out of the cold rain that came in.

This afternoon everything changed. The temperature rose and a smokey haze came over the river. We suspect it is smoke from the forest fires burning to the west of us.

It didn't seem to make a difference...

Well yesterday started out quite well. The guides told us that there appeared to be more fish on the river than they had seen all week.

While fishing the inside of Williams Run a pair of guest had a very exciting double header.

One angler had hooked a salmon and the other hooked into a maxi grilse at the same time. Between the two fish crossing over a couple of times and going under the boat and the quick passing back and forth of rods they had a very exciting experience. Both fish were...
