Well yesterday was a fairly good day for our anglers. Many hook-ups again with most being Large Salmon.

Co-owner Mitch Fong arrived yesterday afternoon and had a very productive evening at the Beach fishing to Elephant Rock. He had hooked 4 fish in the 2 or 3 hours before sunset. Early reports this morning suggest that he will have another very successful day today.

He showed me a picture of a beautiful Salmon that he landed which was about 16 lbs (over 7 Kg). I will attempt to post the...

Long time friend and guide on the Eagle River for 39 years, Al Nippard. (larger version)
All of our guests have now hooked fish. The landed fish were mostly Salmon, which is normal for this time of the season. From my calculation I estimate that 60 - 70% of the fish that have been hooked were Large fish.

Water levels are slowly going down and we expect that, unless there is a change in the weather, we may be able to fish the Bathtub by the middle of next week. The pools in the river are starting to shape up nicely and the water temperature is optimal at about 63 degrees F (17 degrees C).

With a heavy heart I must also report the Al Nippard who guided on the Lower Eagle for 39 years lost his battle with cancer yesterday.

Well we welcomed our first guests to the camp today. Some returning Guests and some newcomers all happy to be here and excited to begin their Eagle River Adventure.

Our guides were ready for them and put them on fish in short order. Although none of our guests landed fish, most of them hooked up.

I am very confident that they will have more success tomorrow when they have their first full day on the water.

Hello from the Eagle River folks, and welcome to our first report for the 2013 angling season. We moved into camp last Thursday and we have been busy! Busy getting the camp ready after a long winter. And we are ready. A new landing area for those of you visiting by helicopter. A whole new water system...expect even water pressure throughout the camp, and we should never run out with our new system pumping from the river and filtered through sediment filters, UV filters, and Reverse Osmosis...

It won't be long now and we will be back on the Eagle River dancing our flies across the water in the hopes of a fight with the mighty atlantic salmon! We are making preparation for another great year. The Atlantic Salmon Federation has released a new educational video for live release. Please, do your part this year by familiarizing yourself with the techniques outlined in this video. You can retain 4 small salmon (grilse) at our lodge, but we are strong advocates of catch and release and doing it right. Check it out on our Eagle Salmon page here http://www.prattfallslodge.com/home/4

Overall it was a down, up, and down year on the Eagle. Water levels certainly played a huge role in giving us a not so typical year! The Year started with low water, cool temps, and fantastic fishing. Our first two weeks of anglers had great success.

Then it poured from the heavens and while no doubt the rainfall was wanted and saved the river for the rest of the year, it made for some difficult fishing during what would normally be our absolute best weeks of the season. The water rose for...

Things have slowed down quite a bit in the past few days, but Eagle has still been providing some good action for the guests we have in now. The river continues to drop and we are turning to our top pools at Air Force side and Pratts to keep the action going. The flat boating section of the river is very slow. Temps hit the low 70's this week but seems to have cooled a few degrees today from the cool temps last night and cloud cover today. The best action over the weekend was below William's...

WOW! It has been a hot week here on the Eagle. The past three days have hit +30 degrees celcius and we all know that is not good for fishing action. Despite the bright days and hot temps, the Eagle is still producing good numbers. Our guests this week have been averaging 4-5 hooked fish a day. And it seems that the tides are bringing fresh sculls every morning and evening.

2 guests just came in from Diplomats and hooked 7 fish. 3 in 5 minutes so there was some excitement down there! In...

Well the water level continues to drop and the fish are still coming.

If the level of the water continues to drop as it has been it will be at the same level it was at last year during our most productive week. Add to this a continuing supply of fresh fish and a new moon approaching.

One of our regular guests who has been fishing the Lower Eagle for a number of years told me today that " this might be my best trip ever."

He has been one of the only anglers this year who has had the...

We were wondering when they would arrive as it is a bit late, but like the saying goes...better late than never!! The river is full of Maxi Grilse. Those right to the limit 62-63 cm fish that are shaped like footballs. Eagle is famous for them and every year we get reminded of why. They are incredibly powerful fish!

A new group arrived yesterday and they had a great start. The fishing yesterday afternoon and evening was very good. We are seeing a lot of fish, and the rises and takes are...
