Once again we continue to have constant temperature fluctuations. The temperature started the past couple of mornings has been about 6 Celsius, (42 F) and will climb until it is over 20 (68 F).
Although this does lower the water temperature, it is not helping with the water levels. The river has continually dropped for the past 2 weeks. The level is not almost a meter (over 3 ft.)
We have already had to start leaving some of our boats on the beach by Governors and walk over the trail to the Lodge.
With little or no precipitation in the forecast the river will continue to drop and incoming guests will not have as many pools to fish.
The seal has been spotted in the river again this morning, and this too will cause the fish to head further up river and seek shelter in the in the rock pile.

Fog in the bay this morning has delayed some of our guests departure.
We have 4 guests who are anxious to depart after a successful fishing trip.
I don't think they are quite as anxious as the 5 new guests who are at Otter Creek waiting to come to our camp.
Fishing activity was slow; for the Lower Eagle; yesterday but almost all our guests did see some action.
When I explained to one of our guests that the fishing was slow, he told me that he found the fishing here to be far better than he has seen on some of the rivers that he fishes.
He was fortunate enough yesterday to land his limit.

We begin the day with rain that will continue for most of the day.
Hopefully this rain is also falling in the plateau.
The water level has continued to fall, but there is an indication the there is a slight increase this morning.
Fishing has been fairly good with many anglers landing fish.
Some of our current guests; first time anglers to the Eagle; are already inquiring into booking again for next year.
All our guests are anxious to start this morning because we are scheduled at Pratt's.
I am confident that they will be successful because the rain is lowering water temperature, and that usually increases the success rate of our anglers.
Hopefully this rain is also falling in the plateau.

Almost all anglers were able to successfully land a fish while others played several before losing them.
We are concerned by the continued appearance of a seal in the river. This pest is definitely having a detrimental on the fish in the river, with anglers reporting that fish have been scarred by encounters with the seal.
The water level in the river continues to fall, but it is hopeful that the precipitation will slow this trend.

We welcomed a new group of anglers today. Some who have fished the Eagle River before and some who have little experience angling.
The group was quite excited upon their arrival and are looking forward to getting on the water to try their luck.
With the water level continuing to drop they may have a little more of a challenge than previous guests but we are quite sure it won't be long before we hear the familiar "Fish On!"
With some precipitation in the forecast we anticipate the water level to remain constant over the next few days.

Although the water level continues to fall there are still a lot of fish in the river.
Numerous fish seen in the river are reported to be salmon. One of our guides; Hedley; told me this morning that he saw the biggest salmon that he has ever seen on the river in his 11 years on the Lower Eagle.
Similar stories were told to me yesterday by guides from other camps. I also witnessed at least 10 - 15 salmon jumping yesterday when I had the opportunity to go to the beach.
With the number of fish reported in the river over the past couple of days the fishing should continue to be good for some time to come.

The Staff was very fortunate yesterday as our Belgian guests treated the staff to a fantastic meal of trout that they caught.
Every member of the group had a part in the preparation of the meal, from start to finish. They even cleaned all the dishes when the meal was completed.
As they leave today they bid us all a fond farewell and everyone, guests and staff included are anticipating their return next summer.
Fishing is slower than it has been and the river continues to drop. Limited precipitation in the forecast.

Yesterday some of our guests had a successful trip or Sandwich Bay for a trout fishing excursion. For most of them it was their first experience trout fishing and they had quite a bit of fun. They enjoyed themselves so much that some of them have decided to try again today.
Today marks the last day of angling for our Belgian group. They have enjoyed themselves so much that they are now planning to make this an annual event. With the fun and excitement that they have had on the Eagle it is no surprise.
They seem to have enjoyed every aspect of the trip. The wilderness, the relaxed atmosphere at the Lodge, and of course the fishing. The only thing that they were not fond of was the flies, but they have taken that in stride too.
The river continues to drop and with the high temperatures it may not rise much above current levels for the rest of the season.

The water level on the river has continued to decline steadily over the past 5 days.
This may continue unless the forecast changes and we have rainfall on the Eagle River Plateau.
Our guests are continuing to hook fish; although fishing was slower yesterday than we have been experiencing, action did pick up in the evening.
All of our guests from Belgium are really enjoying the peace and tranquility that they find on the Eagle River. They have told me that they have very little wilderness in their country, and are amazed by the amount of wildlife that they have seen during their visit.
Some of them have attempted fly tying. Some of the patterns that they produced were successful. They are enjoying the challenge and contemplate creating some original flies for next season.

The Eagle River is has been touted as one of the Best Atlantic Salmon Rivers in the world.
It has been proven once again. Among our guests we have nine new anglers who have never fly fished before yesterday.
