Humid and hot on the Lower Eagle today. While the number of fish taking a fly seemed to decrease it didn't stop our anglers from hooking and releasing their limit of fish. This hot weather is forecast to continue and I can safely say that the hot fishing action will continue as well.

The number of fish landed over the past 3 days is a strong indication of the total amount of salmon that make the annual migration to the head waters.

Although the actual number of fish on this river is unknown anglers who have fished the Eagle know that the number is immense.

Another banner day on the Lower Eagle. The hot spot was a honey hole called the slick. Our anglers all had success there today. There was much friendly banter among the guests as to who would get there first.

The guests treated themselves and the staff to a delicious meal of Planked Salmon for supper. a very tasty treat that was enjoyed by all.

The water level on the river continues to fall slowly but is still higher than normal for this time of year. The Bathtub is still not able to be fished but hopes are high that it will be before the week ends.

As the day draws to a close a new hatch of May Flies Dance in the setting sun. Quite an amazing site.

Almost as amazing as the tail walk of one large salmon who battled for almost 1/2 an hour leaping 4 to 5 feet through the air before finally surrendering to a gentle release to continue its upstream journey to the spawning grounds.

Many spectators of this thrilling struggle comment that the have never seen a salmon put on a show quite like this one. A true testament to the power and agility...

Yesterday was another great day of fishing. There were moments that the salmon didn't seem to want to take a fly, but persist anglers succeed in increasing the total of fish landed.

Despite the rain our guests landed an average of 3+ fish each. The number of Grilse being landed is increasing.

There seem to be new fish coming into the river every day and the action is still very hot while water temperature is still cold.

One Lower Eagle veteran speculated that the cold water temperature is allowing the fish to maintain their energy levels as they move upriver.

This morning saw us say good-bye to our first group of anglers for the season and welcome our second group.

It didn't take these Lower Eagle veterans long to start hooking the Silver Bullets. Several Grilse and a Large Salmon were caught before lunch.

The damp weather didn't dampen the spirits of these anglers. They caught almost as many fish today as the last group caught last week.

These numbers are sure to rise tomorrow when they have their first full day of angling.

When I asked one of our guides how the fishing was today he said "There must have been a big run of fish because they are jumping all over the river."

There was heavy action today, with numerous Grilse caught and several large Salmon Caught and released.

Our first guests have concluded their stay and are scheduled to depart tomorrow morning. They reported that they enjoyed their stay and had an excellent time fishing.

There will be a new moon on Monday which means that the hot action we have seen thus far is only the start of what promises to be another exceptional year on the Lower Eagle.

Water levels continue to drop and Williams Run is able to be fished from the inside. The Bathtub is still foaming but at this rate it should be accessible soon.

Today started slow, but as the day went on activity increased. There were numerous fish seen bet they didn't seem to want to take the fly. One angler hooked and lost 5 fish in the Back River.

All our Guests tell us that they are very happy with the fishing thus far and are looking forward to their last day of angling tomorrow.

Today was an exciting one for anglers. Our guests (newcomers to the Lower Eagle) are amazed at the number of fish that they are seeing. One angler reported seeing at least 30 fish during his rotation in Pratt Falls.

Numerous Grilse released and one 12 Lb Salmon landed. Several anglers reported hooking and losing fish. One angler lost 4 Large salmon this afternoon. His guide Nelson estimated it to be in the 15 Lb range. The angler did redeem himself by landing a Grilse before the evenings fishing ended.

I went for a stroll up to look at Back River just before sunset and was kicking myself for not taking my rod. As soon as I stepped onto the rocks on the shore fish started jumping. I saw 7 fish jump in less than 2 minutes. I won't make that mistake again.

Once again yesterday was a great day of fishing on the Lower Eagle.

All our guests have now landed 1 or more fish. Early morning fishing At Pratt's was productive. The fish that were landed in the morning were fresh run in from the ocean.

The evenings fishing at Governors saw a 12+ Salmon hooked.

Water levels continue to drop while the fish tally rises.
