Brian fighting a fish at Whitebear. (larger version)
Our first group of the year just departed camp, and our new guests are settling in.

Fishing wise, this has been a tough week. All other aspects of the week have been great. This has been a great group of guests and we have really enjoyed hosting them. Wish we could say that the salmon treated them as well as we did at the lodge. From reports we have been getting, rivers right from the Northern Peninsula in Newfoundland and north to here have been late. Unusually late. We have been seeing fish, and large fish at that, but the success rates are not what we are accustomed to for the last week of June.

But all was not lost in the fishing results. The last couple of days there have been a few fish hooked, and there was also some success on a visit to White Bear River. Our high-liner for the week hooked 5 fish and landed his first ever large fish which he was quite excited about. And we had an inexperienced angler hook into two this morning! That's fishing! Many of the group have fished Eagle many times before so they know this in not the norm, and we are glad to hear them say that everything that we could control was perfect. :) Thanks fellas, we do appreciate it.

We think that this week will yield much better results. The river is dropping a steady 2-3 inches a day and most of the pools are looking prime, and we expect that the large salmon run will steadily increase in the coming days. Should be fun with lots of pictures and stories! We'll leave you with a picture of one of the highlights from this past week. Here as the camp high-liner of the week, Brian, handles a salmon like a pro.
