Ducks Unlimited...Fish Unlimited? August Delivers
Posted 02 August 2015, 11:22 pm NDT
We have seen a few straight weeks now of very good fishing, excellent river conditions, and some very happy guests. Many personal best fishing trips have been noted. And...there is no end in sight.

This week we have a group in made up of packages that we designed to help Ducks Unlimited Canada raise some funds at their Atlantic fundraising events, and 75th anniversary gala events across the country. The folks that have chosen to fish at Pratt Falls Salmon Lodge while supporting the Ducks Unlimited 'High Flyer', are not disappointed, and many are already contemplating how and when they will return.

All guests had great success yesterday, with a total of 105 hookups for the whole camp. Still a nice few large fish in the 10-14 lb range being hooked, and the water conditions still holding up quite well. The river temp is around 64F, the water is at its lowest this season, but still plenty of pools. The fish are very fresh, and full of fight. There was rain all across the interior of Labrador today right out to the coast which we hope will freshen up the river for the week ahead.

There was a trouting excursion today into Sandwich Bay as well. The sea-run brookies are in great shape now, fat from feeding on baitfish. There is a catch in brine at the lodge now, ready to go in the smoker tomorrow. By tomorrow evening we will be enjoying a tasty treat of fresh smoked trout. While trouting during low tide at Separation Point, we seen jumping salmon at the Bow Bar. Not once, but three times! A sign that there are still plenty of fish coming in yet.

This quality August fishing brings me back to when I was a kid. July was a busy time in our family business so we often fished Eagle well into mid and late August. It was great fishing then, and is great fishing now.
