Despite the fact that the water levels are continuing they seem to have stabilized; at least for the moment and do not seem to have dropped much over the last couple of days.

We have had some minor showers over the last couple of days but still no major rainfall.

The forecast is indicating that we will get rain tomorrow and hopefully this will help the river; however it is too late in the season to make much difference.

Our group on anglers have had some success hooking fish, but since the fishing tackle that we use here is a little different they are still adjusting.

They are enjoying their stay and indicate that they are happy knowing that there are fish in the river; which is all any angler requires.

Our last group of guests arrived yesterday evening. They are all first time anglers on the Eagle River from Norway.

They seem excited to begin their adventure, despite one of them having all his salmon flies taken by security in Halifax.

The water level in the river is still very low and they will only have 2 locations to fish. Basically the only water that is can be fished now is the Air Force Pools and Pratt Falls.

We are hopeful that they will have good fishing but that remains to be seen.

They do have a couple of things in their favor. Last night was a full moon and there is actually rain in the forecast for the Goose Bay area. Hopefully the rain is not too little too late.

We are still working around the Lodge making some improvements to the accommodations and performing some maintenance.

Water level in the river continues to drop, and the precipitation in the forecast does not indicate that the water level will increase in the near future.

Sea trout are starting to make their way upstream. I saw one that was caught yesterday that was easily over 3 pounds (1.5kg).

The level of the water has now made travel around the river very difficult.

There are only 2 places on the river where anglers are being successful; Pratt Falls & the Air Force pools.

As for the other pools on the river the water is either too slow or you are unable to navigate there by boat.

The flow of water has slowed considerably and a couple of our guides report that they were unable to get the normal swing on their fly in the bathtub. They also found that the boat was getting pushed...

There are fish in the river but they are harder to catch than they are during the peak run. Much of that is because the river is low and there are not many pools to fish.

The river is now well over 1.25 meters lower than it was a month ago.

The successful anglers were those who were wading into the now low water.

One Eagle River veteran told me that he feels that there are lots of fish in the river. His group have hooked 50 fish since the came here and they did so by wading and being persistent.

If you are agile enough to wade and have some experience you should be able to catch some fish.

Yesterday our guests departed and we took the afternoon off to relax and enjoy the weather and do a little fishing ourselves.

The break was much appreciated after 36 straight days of guests. Today we started doing some renovations and maintenance around the lodge.

We have quite a bit of staining to do, and are replacing the windows in the main lodge.

We are not expecting any more guests until next week, and are hoping that the river rises so that they can have good fishing.

It seems that even though the fishing is tougher than normal, it has become better than earlier this week. Thursday and Friday we had guests and guides report fresh fish still coming in the river (so fresh that lice had not fallen off) and the last two mornings and evenings the bathtub has produced some good fishing. In the bright hot mid-day sun it is very hard to get action out of the salmon but they are holding in the pools, too lazy to move!

Our group that left yesterday had a couple of...

Fishing results improved yesterday for our anglers. Most of our guests were able to hook fish yesterday.

Speculation is that it was because of the overcast conditions.

Today promises to have similar results. Air temperature is cool this morning and the sky is overcast again.

Water levels are continuing to fall, and the rain that was in the long range forecast is now changed to showers.

With any luck the forecast will change again and we will see the much needed rain.

The fishing is getting harder. Only a few of our guests were able to land fish yesterday.

Numerous fish were seen around the river yesterday, but only a few would rise, and fewer again would actually take a fly.

Water levels are still dropping; but finally there is rain in the long range forecast.

The forecast of rain will do little for our current guests, unfortunately.

One of the guides from another camp told me yesterday that he had guests over to White Bear River and the situation was very similar.

There were fish there but only one fish was hooked.

The fishing this week has undoubtedly turned into a dissappointment for some first time anglers to the Eagle. There is a lot of legend surrounding how high the catch rates are on this great river, but like any river, mother nature can change that with low and warm water conditions.

I fished last night on the sand bar, which right now is about 7-8 inches of water. I did see 7 fish porpoising and jumping in the small space as the evening cooled off, but the fish were not interested in taking...
